Description
Festuca ovina Eiler’s Beauty™ (Sheep Fescue) is an adaptable and striking addition to any drought tolerant garden. This selection was discovered by nurseryman and botanist Henry Eilers in Turkey. Eiler’s Beauty™ is a unique grass that boasts arching, fine matte-green foliage that supports a stunning display of sand-colored blooms on firm, red-suffused stalks. Densely tufted compact clumps are perfect for mixed borders, containers, and dry shade gardens.
The species F. ovina is drought tolerant and can survive in a range of soil conditions, making a suitable choice for many regions. This long-lived cool-season grass thrives in spring and fall when temperatures are lower and moisture is more readily available. During summer, its growth is minimal and relies heavily on precipitation or irrigation. Plant in full sun to partial shade in well-drained soil. This low-maintenance grass does not require fertilization but can be trimmed back in late winter to encourage new spring growth.
