Description
Penstemon x mexicali ‘Psmyers’ Shadow Mountain® (Beardtongue) is a unique variety with striking flowers. Abundant flower spikes rise above a mound of attractive glossy green narrow leaves, with blooms lasting for months from summer to fall. This cousin of Plant Select’s RED ROCKS® and PIKES PEAK PURPLE® Penstemons, was discovered at Welby Gardens in Denver, CO.
This Penstemon is tolerant of many different soil types and can be grown in full sun as well as light shade. While SHADOW MOUNTAIN® does very well grown in a xeric situation, it blooms heavier and more continuously with moderate watering. However, avoid frequent, heavy watering as this will make it floppy. Deadheading will prolong bloom. Cut back each fall for a fresh new look in spring. Seedlings may not be true to variety color.
